DER ASSISTANT "Ultramarin" BALEARIC AOR MODERN SOUL LO-FI LOUNGE FUNK LP
BEST OF EARCAVE - essential release from BERLIN
Berlin songwriter-producer Der Assistent follows Amnesie Am Amazonas with a third album, Ultramarin, drifting further into his home-built, soft-lit, autofictive world, Ultramarin. Eight tracks side-to-side between sultry languages and moods, first with 'Wenn Der Scirocco Weht', a sideways nod to Japanese lovers rock, before 'Ultramarin' circles colour theory and Yves Klein references in a dub-tinged haze. 'Mann Am Telefon' leans into yacht pop and lo-fi soul, stretching into a synth-led coda recalling Vangelis, while 'Der Assistent Und Das Zweite Ich' and 'Doppelganger' push the album's split-self thread, narrative hints Fight Club and Blade Runner glimpsed in the fire. Closer-outer 'Total Confusion' lands as an 80s r&b-leaning ballad, sax lines and digital keys.
